Paid Time Off (PTO) Types
- Vacation / Annual Leave — 20 days/year
Time away for rest, travel, and personal time, typically planned and approved in advance.
- Sick Leave — 7 days/year
Time off for illness, injury, recovery, and medical appointments for yourself. This can also apply for caring for a sick family member if available days are available.
- Personal Days — 3 days/year
Time off for personal matters like urgent life admin, home issues, or important appointments.

Time off after the death of a family member to grieve, travel, attend services, and manage related affairs.
- Maternity or Paternity (Bonding) — 70 days (14 weeks)
Paid time for bonding after birth, adoption, or foster placement (often coordinated with other leave programs).
- Medical Leave / Short-Term Disability — 84 days (about 12 weeks)
Time away for an employee’s own serious medical condition; frequently delivered as partial wage replacement via a disability plan.
- FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) — 60 days (12 weeks)
Job-protected, typically unpaid leave (or partially paid if employees use accrued PTO or qualify for paid benefits) for certain family and medical reasons—commonly: a family member's serious health condition, caring for a spouse/child/parent with a serious health condition, or certain military family needs.
- Jury Duty Leave — 5 days/year (as needed)
Paid time to comply with jury duty obligations (many policies pay up to a set number of days, then shift to unpaid/partial pay).
- Volunteer Time Off (VTO) — 3 days/year
Paid time to volunteer with eligible nonprofits or community organizations.
- Mental Health Days / Wellbeing Leave — 3 days/year
Time off for mental wellbeing, burnout prevention, therapy appointments, or decompressing.

Time off earned in exchange for extra hours worked, where permitted and applicable.
